Lawai Beach is one of Kauai's most beloved oceanfront gathering places. Located on the island's sunny South Shore in Poipu, this small crescent of sand sits beside the iconic Beach House Restaurant and across from Lawai Beach Resort. Despite its modest size, the beach offers an impressive variety of activities, making it a favorite destination for snorkelers, surfers, photographers, and sunset seekers alike.
Sometimes referred to as Beach House Beach or Prince Kuhio Beach, Lawai Beach combines scenic beauty with easy access to the ocean. The beach lies beneath Lawai Road, where visitors gather throughout the day to relax on the sand, watch surfers ride the waves, or simply enjoy the sweeping views of the Pacific. Centers and Acid Drops, however, are more advanced reef breaks that come alive during larger swells and are generally best left to experienced surfers.
As with any ocean activity on Kauai, conditions can change quickly. Visitors should check the surf and weather forecast before entering the water and pay attention to ocean conditions throughout their visit. Currents and occasional rip currents can develop, particularly near the rocks and along the right side of the beach. Exercising caution and staying within one's comfort level is always recommended.
