Brennecke's Beach, the pastel-blue cove next to Poipu Beach Park on Kauai's south shore, is the island's premier destination for bodyboarding and bodysurfing. With its consistent shore break and excellent wave conditions, the beach has become a mecca for wave riders from around the island and beyond, offering an unforgettable experience for visitors of all skill levels.
Unlike neighboring Poipu Beach, which is better known for swimming and snorkeling, Brennecke's Beach is all about riding waves. Swells roll directly onto the shoreline, creating steep, hollow waves that can provide thrilling rides when conditions are right.
The shoreline is bordered by lava rock, and submerged rocks are present in some areas. Ocean conditions can change quickly, and rip currents and strong shore break are common. Before entering the water, take a few minutes to observe the surf and never assume conditions are safe simply because others are in the water.
While Brennecke's is popular with local residents, respectful visitors are warmly welcomed. Because of the limited size of the break and the number of bodyboarders in the water, surfing is discouraged here, with most surfers choosing nearby breaks instead.

Although Brennecke's Beach does not have its own lifeguards or facilities, both are conveniently located next door at Poipu Beach Park. The park offers lifeguards, restrooms, outdoor showers, picnic tables and several parking lots.
Boogie board rentals and surf accessories are available across the street at Nukumoi Surf Co. Nearby dining options include Brennecke's Beach Broiler, Brennecke's Snack Shack, and Puka Dog, all located in the same building area across from Poipu Beach.
