As daylight reveals the aftermath of Hurricane Lowell, the extent of the damage across Kauai is becoming increasingly clear. Some of the hardest-hit areas appear to be along the island’s South and West Sides, where powerful surf, storm surge and flooding caused extensive damage from Poipu to Waimea and Kekaha.
Homes near the shoreline have been heavily damaged, roads have been washed out or blocked by debris, boats have capsized, and portions of Kauai’s waterfront infrastructure have been severely impacted. Among the most striking early reports are major damage at Baby Beach in Poipu, destruction along the Port Allen waterfront and the apparent loss of a significant portion of historic Waimea Pier.
The full extent of Hurricane Lowell’s impact is still being assessed. Kauai Magazine will update this page throughout the coming days as additional reports, photographs and verified information become available.

9.08.26: An Instagram reel by @sydney.noelani shows a Princeville community hit hard by Hurricane Lowell, with a significant number of trees down and roads blocked with debris. The downed trees include many on the pedestrian pathway along Ka Haku Road, the main road through the village.
9.08.26: Hanalei sustained notable damage with significant debris throughout the town, signage down, and some light structure collapses, reports @j_ryder in an Instagram reel.
9.08.26: Waves and water washed through the Beach House Restaurant in Poipu, causing notable damage.
9.08.26: Sheraton Kauai Resort in Poipu has debris, intrusive sand, and damage to community areas, along Kiahuna Beach, and to the property itself. Waves and water washed through the first floor, causing notable damage.
9.08.26: Severe damage to dozens of homes in Poipu near Baby Beach. One house was lifted off its foundation and split in half, reports @nikkischen.
9.08.26: Port Allen suffered extensive damage along the waterfront, with large sections of the road cracked and some capsized boats.
9.08.26: Kaumualii Highway in Kekaha is heavily damaged, with many large rocks blocking the highway.
9.08.26: A video shared to Instagram by @jpspizzakauai shows significant damage to the Waimea Pier, with the entire first half of the pier nearest the shore missing, and with only the posts remaining.
9.08.26: Morning light is revealing significant damage in the Poipu area. A section of Lawai Road at Prince Kuhio Park has been washed out. Prince Kuhio Park is standing in water, with adjacent Prince Kuhio Resort and Kuhio Shores showing signs of damage.
