THE SALVATION ARMY DELIVERS FOOD TO STORM-DEVASTATED RESIDENTS, PASSENGERS IN LENGTHY TSA LINES, THROUGH RELIEF PARTNERSHIP WITH DOMINO’S HAWAIʻI AND RAINBOW HELICOPTERS

Airlift of fresh pizzas and aloha arrived Thursday afternoon in Līhuʻe

WHAT: Continuing to meet the call from Kauaʻi County to help feed communities struggling in the wake of Hurricane Lowell’s impact, The Salvation Army Hawaiian & Pacific Islands Division is amplifying its reach through the power of partnership. The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) teams joined forces with Domino’s Hawaiʻi and Rainbow Helicopters to airlift food for a mass feeding distribution on Kauaʻi Island.

Salvation Army Kauai Food Relief

An airlift of 255 Domino’s Hawaii pizzas—enough to feed a thousand people currently navigating widespread destruction and near total blackouts on Kauaʻi—departed from Honolulu via three Rainbow Helicopter flights, arriving in Līhuʻe on the afternoon of September 10th. The pizzas and flights were generously donated by Domino’s Hawaiʻi and Rainbow Helicopters respectively.

EDS teams from The Salvation Army coordinated distribution logistics in the face of compromised roads and connection challenges throughout Kauaʻi to serve dinner to those sheltering in all the designated Kauaʻi refuge areas between Kapa‘a and Waimea. Meeting evolving on-island needs moment-to-moment, teams additionally passed out boxes of pizza to hundreds of passengers stranded in hours-long TSA lines with screening delays exacerbated by intermittent power at Līhuʻe Airport.

WHEN/WHERE: Pizza transport and dinner distributions took place September 10, building on The Salvation Army’s Lowell relief efforts mobilized since September 8.
